Finance — Church Accounting
A cloud-native double-entry ledger built for Reformed congregations. AI reconciles your bank statements automatically, members tithe online, and your books stay audit-ready — without a desktop install, an annual upgrade, or a separate membership program.

01 — Ledger
Every transaction in Reformeer is a parent transaction with one or more balanced legs — debit and credit — against either a bank account or a chart-of-accounts line. The platform enforces that legs balance before a transaction is posted, so the books are always in balance and every report (trial balance, income statement, balance sheet) ties back to source.
02 — Bank statements
Upload a CSV, PDF, or Excel statement from any bank. Reformeer detects the column layout, date format, and decimal separator automatically — no manual column mapping, no rigid templates. The AI then suggests a chart-of-accounts category and a matching member for every transaction. A finance officer reviews and approves each suggestion before posting; nothing auto-commits.
Tested across South African bank formats
Format detection is AI-driven, so any other bank statement layout (CSV, PDF, or Excel) works out of the box without custom templates. Around 90% of transactions are classified automatically — the remaining 10% are surfaced for review.
03 — Envelope budgeting
Reformed congregations rarely run on a single pot of money. There's a building fund. A missions fund. A benevolence fund the deacons steward separately. Reformeer models these as envelopes: income legs flow in, expense legs deduct, and the running balance is always visible. Envelope balances are reconciled against the corresponding equity line in the chart of accounts so the formal books and the practical ring-fencing stay in lockstep.
04 — Online giving
Each council gets its own Paystack subaccount — Reformeer never holds your funds. Members give once-off via card, EFT, instant EFT, SnapScan, or mobile, or set up recurring monthly tithe contributions. Every Paystack transaction is captured via webhook and reconciled against the ledger automatically. At year-end every member gets an itemised contribution statement.
05 — Migrating from a legacy system
Many congregations still run on Windows-based desktop accounting programs with annual licence fees, or on two separate programs — one for membership, one for finance — that never quite talk to each other. Reformeer is the cloud-native single platform that replaces both, and it makes migration a one-time event:
Export your existing trial balance to CSV or Excel. Reformeer detects the column layout (account, debit, credit) automatically and creates the opening-balance journal entries.
Need to bring across historical detail too? Upload accumulated journal entries as CSV or Excel — Reformeer parses, validates that debit equals credit per entry, and posts them en masse.
Member registers come across via CSV or Excel into Kantoor, with AI-assisted column mapping (works with Afrikaans column names too).
06 — Audit & POPIA
Every transaction records its source — bank statement upload, manual entry, journal import, or Paystack webhook — along with the user who created or last edited it and precise timestamps. Edits create new audit records rather than overwriting old ones. Per-tithe legs trace through to the specific member who gave. POPIA compliance is built in: data is isolated per council, access is role-based (Finance role separate from Elder, Deacon, Pastor, Admin), and everything is encrypted at rest on Google Cloud with daily backups.
07 — Cloud-native
Reformeer runs in the browser. The treasurer can post a journal from a laptop on a Sunday afternoon, an elder can check the building-fund balance from a phone in a council meeting, and an auditor can log in from anywhere with read-only access. There is no Windows-only constraint, no “please update before you can open this file”, no annual licence cycle. The platform updates continuously; you always have the latest version.
Period-on-period history tables let a council compare this month's tithes against last month's, this year's benevolence spend against last year's. The data is always live — no monthly export ritual.
